Volunteerism

For many years, Mr. Karp has participated as a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America, both locally and nationally, and, among other awards, has received the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth, the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, the Shofar Award of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting and the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award

News articles describing his volunteer work have been published in the Los Angeles Jewish Journal (January 5, 2006) and in in Freemasonry Today, the Official Journal of The United Grand Lodge of England (Spring 2007, Issue 40).

Locally, from 2008 to 2010, Mr. Karp served as a Co-Advisor, to help form and lead the San Fernando Valley Bar Association's Law and Government Exploring Post. Exploring is a program of "Learning for Life." A related article is available here.

Nationally, Mr. Karp serves as the Secretary of the National Association of Masonic Scouters

Mr. Karp is a member of Home Lodge No. 721, Free and Accepted Masons, Van Nuys, California and serves as its Chartered Organization Representative for Cub Scout Pack 357 which meets in Canoga Park, CA.

For over ten years, Mr. Karp was also the Chartered Organization Representative for Cub Scout Pack 311 and Boy Scout Troop 36 of Temple Beth Hillel (Reform), Valley Village, CA.  Consistent therewith, Mr. Karp has always maintained strong personal convictions about inclusive Scouting, as more partucularly described here.

In addition to the foregoing, Mr. Karp volunteers countless hours to the Los Angeles Superior Court as a mediator and settlement officer. In March 2007, Mr. Karp was acknowledged by the Los Angeles Superior Court for "Outstanding Volunteer Contributions" to the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
