Volunteerism
Mr. Karp participates as a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America and, among other awards, has received the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth, the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, the Shofar Award of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting and the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award.
Locally, Mr. Karp is the Chairman of the Western Los Angeles County Council ("WLACC") Relationships Committee, the former Chairman of the WLACC Jewish Committee on Scouting and the former Chairman of Cahuenga District. See the related article about finding "common ground" in local Jewish Scouting published in the Jewish Journal on January 5, 2006.
Mr. Karp serves as the Chartered Organization Representative for Temple Beth Hillel's Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop, in Valley Village, California; he is the Chartered Organization Representative for Home Masonic Lodge's Cub Scout Pack 357 now meeting in Canoga Park, California; and he is a Co-Advisor for the San Fernando Valley Bar Association's newly established Law Explorer Post 1926.
In consonance with his role as Chartered Organization Representative for Temple Beth Hillel, Mr. Karp sets forth his personal convictions about inclusive Scouting here.
In addition to his service to the local Council, Mr. Karp serves as the Secretary of the National Association of Masonic Scouters and is a member of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting. A related article about Mr. Karp's contributions to the formation of the National Association of Masonic Scouters was published in Freemasonry Today, The Official Journal of The United Grand Lodge of England, in Spring 2007 (Issue 40.)
Mr. Karp volunteers countless hours to the Los Angeles Superior Court as a mediator and settlement officer. In March 2007, Mr. Karp was acknowledged by the Los Angeles Superior Court for "Outstanding Volunteer Contributions" to the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
Mr. Karp is a member of Home Lodge No. 721, Free and Accepted Masons, Van Nuys, California.
